The signs are evident, and the predictions are that Liverpool is already signposted as the Northern economic powerhouse.

Care Certificate now launched by Skills for Care

Skills for Care now launch the new Care CertificateSkills for Care have now announced the launch of the new ‘Care Certificate’ to help Health Care sector staff in their standards of care. The launch is focused on a number of pre-set standards of care and will be used for new starters and existing staff as refresher training.

The new changes come into effect in the wake of the failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust which highlighted inconsistencies in training. The Care Certificate was a recommendation from the Cavendish review, which suggested how to improve the quality of care provided by health and care support workers. Continue reading

Following an e-petition signed by over 100,000 people and delivered to Downing Street, parliament has promised to roll out new guidance for paediatric first aid training for Child Care staff and Nursery staff.

The e-petition was in response to the tragic death of 9 Month old Millie Thompson, who while in the care of her local Nursery choked to death. Millies Trust - Campaign to train all nursery staff in Paediatric First AidThe death of Millie Thompson in 2013 at a Manchester nursery has forced a Westminster debate on making first aid training compulsory for all child care and nursery staff.

More than 100,000 people signed the e-petition started by Dan and Joanne Thompson after their nine-month-old baby Millie died after choking on food at the Ramillies Hall nursery in Stockport two years ago. They are campaigning to make such training readily available for minimal costs and in as many places as possible. Continue reading
