Introduction

Buccal Midazolam and Epilepsy awareness Training for Care Homes in LiverpoolBuccal Midazolam is an emergency rescue medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or nurse prescriber for the control of continuous or prolonged seizures which at times can be a lifesaving procedure.

It is administered by a trained person to the buccal mucosa (between the gums and cheek) and is receiving wide spread acceptance due to its effectiveness in stopping seizures and its social acceptability.

Buccal Midazolam administering is a more dignified procedure than the administering of rectal diazepam. Privacy and dignity are not comprimised and in medical situations where rectal diazepam is not possible to apply, then buccal midazolam is an effective alternative.
